SeatSkins FAQ & Knowledge Base
Everything you need to know about SeatSkins products, fitment, customisation, installation and ordering.
Products & Fitment
Will my heated or ventilated seats still work?
Factory heated seats will generally continue to operate normally after a SeatSkins trim kit is installed correctly.
Ventilated or cooled seats require the correct materials and perforation to allow airflow through the trim. Compatibility can vary between vehicles and products.
If your vehicle has ventilated or cooled seats, please check the product description or contact us before ordering so we can confirm the appropriate trim configuration.
Are SeatSkins leather trims compatible with seat-mounted airbags?
Yes. Where applicable, SeatSkins trims are manufactured for vehicles equipped with seat-mounted airbags.
Airbag seams are sewn using the correct machinery and processes by experienced technicians to allow the factory seat airbag system to operate as intended.
It is important to order the correct trim for your specific vehicle and seat configuration. If you're unsure about compatibility, contact us before ordering.
Can I buy a single replacement trim instead of a complete kit?
Yes. SeatSkins can supply individual replacement trims, and many individual trims are already available on our website.
If you can see a complete SeatSkins kit listed for your vehicle, we already have the patterns required to manufacture the individual trims from that kit.
If you can't find the individual trim you need listed on our website, contact us with your vehicle details and tell us which seat or trim section you require. We can help identify the correct product or arrange a custom order.
Are SeatSkins leather trim kits seat covers or replacement upholstery?
SeatSkins leather trim kits are replacement upholstery, not universal slip-on seat covers.
The original factory seat upholstery is removed and the SeatSkins trim is fitted to the existing seat foam and frame using normal automotive upholstery installation methods.
Our trims are designed for specific vehicles and seat configurations to provide a factory-style fit and finish.
Do I need to remove the original seat material?
Yes. SeatSkins leather trim kits replace the original upholstery rather than fitting over it.
The factory cloth, leather or vinyl trim is removed before the new SeatSkins trim is installed. The existing seat frame and foam are retained unless repairs or replacement foam are required.
How do I know which SeatSkins kit fits my vehicle?
SeatSkins trims are designed for specific vehicles and seat configurations, so fitment can vary between model years, series, variants and seat types.
If you're unsure which product fits your vehicle, contact us with your vehicle's make, model, year and variant. In some cases we may also ask for photos of your seats so we can confirm the correct fitment before you order.
Can I upgrade my cloth seats to leather?
Yes. This is one of the main purposes of our leather trim kits.
The original cloth upholstery is removed and replaced with the SeatSkins leather trim, while retaining your existing seat frames and foam.
Our kits are designed to give your vehicle a factory-style leather interior rather than the appearance and fit of a slip-over seat cover.
Colours & Customisation
Can I customise the colours of my SeatSkins trim kit?
Yes. Many SeatSkins trim kits can be customised with different colour combinations.
Depending on the product, customisation can include the main trim colours, stitching colour, embroidery or logo colour, perforation and other design details.
Available options vary between products, so check the options shown on the product page or contact us if you have a particular combination in mind.
Can I change the stitching colour?
Yes. Stitching colour can be customised on many of our SeatSkins trim kits.
Where stitching colour is offered as an option on the product page, simply select your preferred colour when ordering. If the colour you want isn't shown, contact us and we can confirm whether it is available.
Changing the stitching colour is generally an easy way to personalise the interior while keeping the overall trim design factory-style.
Can I change the logo or embroidery colour?
Yes. Logo and embroidery colours can be customised on many SeatSkins trim kits.
Where colour options are available on the product page, select your preferred embroidery or logo colour when ordering.
If you want a colour or combination that isn't shown, contact us and we can confirm the available options.
Can I add a custom logo or embroidery?
Yes. Custom embroidery and logos can be added to many SeatSkins trim kits.
If you would like your own logo or design embroidered into the trims, contact us with the artwork and details of the vehicle or trim kit you're interested in. We can confirm whether the design can be produced and advise of any additional cost.
Some trademarked, licensed or manufacturer logos may require permission or may not be available.
Can you create a completely custom interior design?
Yes. In addition to our standard customisation options, SeatSkins can also help with more bespoke interior designs.
More extensive customisation can include different materials, colour combinations, stitching designs, perforation, embroidery and other changes beyond the standard options shown on our product pages.
For highly customised projects, contact us with your vehicle details and some information or inspiration for what you would like to achieve. We can then discuss the available options and whether a bespoke design consultation is appropriate.
Materials & Leather
What materials do SeatSkins use?
SeatSkins uses automotive-grade upholstery materials specifically designed for vehicle interiors.
Depending on the product and configuration, this can include genuine leather, automotive vinyl and combinations of different materials.
The exact material specification can vary between products, so refer to the individual product description or contact us if you would like to confirm the materials used in a particular trim kit.
Is the entire trim kit genuine leather?
This depends on the product and material option selected.
Some SeatSkins trim kits use genuine leather on the main seating surfaces with matching automotive vinyl on non-contact areas, while other configurations may offer different or higher leather coverage.
Check the individual product description for the material specification, or contact us if you would like to confirm the leather coverage of a particular kit.
What is the difference between genuine leather and automotive vinyl?
Genuine leather is a natural material that provides a premium look, feel and character.
Automotive vinyl is a synthetic material designed specifically for vehicle interiors. It is durable, easy to maintain and can closely match the appearance and colour of leather.
Many automotive interiors, including factory leather interiors, use a combination of materials in different areas of the seat. SeatSkins may also use a combination of genuine leather and automotive vinyl depending on the particular product and specification.
Will SeatSkins leather look like a factory leather interior?
Yes. SeatSkins trim kits are designed to provide a fitted, factory-style appearance rather than the loose appearance associated with universal or slip-over seat covers.
The final result depends on selecting the correct trim for the vehicle and installing it correctly. Because the original upholstery is removed, the new trim follows the shape of the factory seat foam and is secured using automotive upholstery installation methods.
Custom colours, stitching, logos and other options can also be used if you prefer a more personalised appearance.
DIY Installation
Can I install a SeatSkins leather trim kit myself?
Yes. Many customers install SeatSkins trim kits themselves, but the difficulty varies depending on the vehicle, the seats and your level of experience.
The cutting and sewing of the upholstery has already been completed for you, but installation still requires removing the original upholstery and carefully fitting and securing the new trims to achieve a good result.
If you're comfortable working on vehicle interiors and taking your time, DIY installation can be a good option. We also have installation videos and information available on our Installation page to help you through the process.
If you would prefer not to install the trims yourself, professional installation is also available.
What tools do I need to install a SeatSkins trim kit?
The exact tools required vary between vehicles, but a typical installation may require hog ring pliers, hog rings, basic hand tools and trim removal tools.
Some vehicles use different clips, fasteners or attachment methods, so additional tools may be required depending on the seat design.
We recommend checking our installation videos and any vehicle-specific installation information before starting the job.
How long does it take to install a SeatSkins trim kit?
Installation time varies considerably depending on the vehicle, number of seats and the installer's experience.
For a DIY installation, allow plenty of time rather than rushing the job. A complete interior may take anywhere from several hours to a full day or longer for someone doing it for the first time.
An experienced automotive trimmer will generally complete the installation more quickly.
Why aren't the holes for headrests, handles and other fittings pre-cut?
This is intentional and is standard practice in automotive upholstery.
Areas for items such as headrests, lumbar handles and other fittings may be marked as a guide rather than having the final hole pre-cut.
This allows the installer to position and tension the trim correctly on the seat first, then make the opening in exactly the right position. Pre-cutting these holes could force the trim into a particular position rather than allowing the installer to achieve the best fit and finish.
Professional Installation
Can SeatSkins install my leather trim kit for me?
Yes. SeatSkins offers professional installation at our workshop in Croydon, Victoria.
Our experienced automotive trimmers can professionally fit your SeatSkins products for you, so you can have the complete supply-and-install service handled by us.
For installation pricing, availability or to book your vehicle in, visit our Installation page or contact us with your vehicle details and the products you would like installed.
Can my local automotive trimmer install a SeatSkins kit?
Yes. A qualified automotive or motor trimmer should be able to install a SeatSkins leather trim kit.
Our trims are replacement automotive upholstery and are installed using normal automotive trimming methods.
If you're purchasing the kit from us but having it fitted elsewhere, we recommend arranging installation with your chosen trimmer before ordering.
Where can I find a SeatSkins installer near me?
SeatSkins works with professional automotive trimmers around Australia who can install our leather trim kits.
If you're not located near our Croydon workshop in Victoria, visit our Installation page to find an installer in your area.
You can purchase your SeatSkins trim kit from us and arrange for one of these professional trimmers to install it locally.
How much does professional installation cost?
Installation pricing varies depending on the vehicle, number of seats and the products being installed.
For installation at our Croydon workshop, contact SeatSkins or visit our Installation page for a quote.
If you're using an independent automotive trimmer, installation labour rates vary between workshops, so we recommend contacting the installer directly for their current pricing.
Ordering, Production & Shipping
Do you offer discounts on SeatSkins products?
Our products are generally sold at the prices shown on our website, and we don't normally negotiate individual discounts.
From time to time, we may run promotions or special offers on selected products.
For larger, trade or unusual orders, contact us with the details of what you require and we can advise whether any special pricing applies.
Can I order a SeatSkins product that isn't currently listed on the website?
Possibly. Our website does not necessarily show every product, individual trim or custom configuration that we can supply.
If you can't find what you need, contact us with your vehicle make, model, year and variant, along with details of the product or trim you're looking for.
If we have the required patterns or can produce the item, we'll let you know the available options and how to order.
Are SeatSkins trim kits kept in stock or made to order?
Some SeatSkins products are kept in stock, while many of our leather trim kits are made to order for your specific vehicle and selected options.
Made-to-order kits allow us to offer a much wider range of vehicle fitments, colours and customisation options than would be possible with stock products alone.
Check the individual product page for availability information, or contact us if you need to confirm whether a particular product is currently in stock or will need to be manufactured.
How long does a made-to-order SeatSkins trim kit take?
Our current production time for most made-to-order SeatSkins trim kits is approximately 2–3 weeks.
Production times can vary depending on the product, vehicle, customisation options and current workload.
If you need your trim kit by a particular date, contact us before ordering and we can advise you of the current estimated production time.
How will I know when my order has been shipped?
Once your order has been completed and dispatched, you will receive shipping confirmation with tracking information where available.
You can use the tracking details to follow the progress of your delivery.
If you need an update before your order has been dispatched, contact us with your order number and we can check its current status.
Can I change my order after it has been placed?
If you need to change your order, contact us as soon as possible.
We may be able to change vehicle details, colours, stitching, embroidery or other options if production has not progressed too far.
Because many SeatSkins trim kits are made to order, changes may not be possible once manufacturing has started. Contact us with your order number and the change you would like to make, and we'll confirm what is possible.
Warranty, Returns & Product Problems
What warranty do SeatSkins leather trim kits come with?
SeatSkins leather trim kits come with a 4-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship.
This includes issues such as premature wear of the trim material or stitching that fails or comes undone during normal use.
If you believe you have a warranty issue, contact us with your order details and clear photos of the affected area so we can assess the problem and help resolve it.
The warranty covers eligible replacement trim parts but does not cover installation or labour costs.
What should I do if there is a problem with my SeatSkins product?
If you have a problem with a SeatSkins product, please contact us before attempting any repairs or modifications.
Send us your order number, vehicle details, a description of the problem and clear photos showing the affected area.
This will allow us to identify the issue and determine the best solution, whether it relates to fitment, manufacturing, damage or another product concern.
What does the SeatSkins warranty not cover?
The SeatSkins warranty does not cover damage caused by incorrect installation, misuse, accidents, neglect, modifications or normal wear and tear.
Damage caused by sharp objects, chemicals, excessive abrasion or other external factors is also not considered a manufacturing defect.
Warranty coverage applies to eligible product defects and does not include installation or labour costs.
If you're unsure whether an issue may be covered, contact us with your order details and clear photos and we'll assess it for you.
Can I return a SeatSkins product?
Returns depend on the product and the circumstances of the order.
Because many SeatSkins trim kits are made to order or customised for a specific vehicle, colour or configuration, they may not be eligible for return simply because you change your mind.
If you need to return a product, contact us before sending anything back. Provide your order number and the reason for the return, and we'll confirm whether the item is eligible and provide the appropriate return instructions.
This does not affect any rights you may have under Australian Consumer Law.
What if I receive the wrong product or something is damaged in transit?
If you believe you've received the wrong product, or your order has arrived damaged, contact us as soon as possible.
Please provide your order number, a description of the issue and clear photos of the product, packaging and any damage where applicable.
Don't install, modify or discard the product or packaging until we've reviewed the issue. We'll assess the information and advise you on the appropriate next steps.
Seat Foams, Repairs & Comfort
Do I need to replace my seat foam when fitting a SeatSkins trim kit?
Usually, no. SeatSkins leather trim kits are designed to fit over your existing factory seat foam once the original upholstery has been removed.
If your seat foam is still in good condition, it can normally be reused.
If the foam is badly worn, collapsed, torn or damaged, repairing or replacing it before fitting the new trim can significantly improve the final fit, appearance and comfort of the seat.
If you're unsure about the condition of your seat foam, send us some photos and we can help advise you.
Can damaged or worn seat foam be repaired?
Yes. In many cases, damaged or worn seat foam can be repaired rather than completely replaced.
Common problems such as collapsed bolsters, splits, worn areas and sections that have lost their shape can often be rebuilt or repaired by an experienced automotive trimmer.
At our Croydon workshop, we can assess and repair seat foam as part of an installation where required.
For some vehicles, SeatSkins also sells replacement seat foams when a suitable replacement foam is available.
Can I replace my seat foam with a new SeatSkins foam?
For some vehicles, yes. SeatSkins sells replacement seat foams for selected makes, models and seat types.
Seat foam designs can vary between model years, series, variants and even different seat types within the same vehicle, so it is important to select the correct foam for your seat.
Check the vehicle fitment information on the product page before ordering. If you're unsure, contact us with your vehicle details and photos of the seat and we can help identify the correct foam.
Can seat foam repairs improve the comfort of my seats?
Yes. Worn or collapsed seat foam can significantly affect both the comfort and support of a seat.
Repairing damaged bolsters, rebuilding collapsed areas or replacing badly worn foam can restore the shape and support of the seat.
If you're having a SeatSkins trim kit professionally installed at our Croydon workshop, we can inspect the seat foam during installation and advise if repairs are required.
Can you reshape or modify my seat foam?
Yes. In some cases, seat foam can be modified or reshaped to improve support, repair worn areas or alter the shape of the seat.
This type of work is assessed individually because the options depend on the seat design, existing foam and the result you're trying to achieve.
If you're interested in modifying your seats, contact us with your vehicle details, photos of the seats and an explanation of what you would like to change. We can then advise what may be possible at our Croydon workshop.
Care & Maintenance
How should I clean my SeatSkins leather seats?
Regular cleaning will help keep your SeatSkins leather looking its best and prevent dirt and oils from building up on the surface.
Use a soft, damp microfibre cloth for regular cleaning. For more thorough cleaning, use a quality automotive leather cleaner and follow the product instructions.
Avoid aggressively scrubbing the leather or allowing cleaning products to soak into seams, stitching or perforated areas.
Cleaning spills and dirt promptly will also help prevent staining and premature wear.
Should I use leather conditioner on my SeatSkins leather seats?
Yes. A quality automotive leather conditioner can be used periodically to help maintain the appearance and feel of genuine leather.
Always use a product specifically designed for automotive leather and follow the manufacturer's instructions. Apply it sparingly rather than heavily saturating the leather.
How often conditioning is required will depend on how the vehicle is used and its exposure to heat and sunlight. Regular gentle cleaning is generally more important than frequent conditioning.
Are there any products I should avoid using on my leather seats?
Yes. Avoid harsh household cleaners, solvents, bleach, alcohol-based cleaners and abrasive products, as these may damage or discolour automotive leather and vinyl.
Avoid silicone-heavy dressings or products that leave the seats excessively oily, greasy or slippery.
We recommend using cleaning and conditioning products specifically designed for automotive leather and testing any new product on a small, inconspicuous area first.
Is it normal for new leather trims to have some wrinkles after installation?
Yes. Some minor wrinkles or looseness can be normal immediately after a new leather trim kit has been installed.
Leather can settle and conform more closely to the shape of the seat foam with use, warmth and time.
Correct installation and tensioning are important to achieving the best finish. If you have significant wrinkles, loose areas or a fitment concern that does not improve, send us photos of the seat and we can help determine whether an adjustment may be required.

We manufacture some products at our workshop in Croydon, Victoria, while many of our leather trim kits are produced by our specialist manufacturing partner in Malaysia, who we have worked with for more than 20 years.
Our vehicle patterns, specifications and product designs are developed and refined by SeatSkins to ensure the correct fit and finish for each application.
How are SeatSkins patterns developed?

We use original vehicle seats and trims to develop and refine our patterns, taking into account differences between models, series, variants and seat types.
This is why it is important to select the correct SeatSkins product for your exact vehicle. If there is any uncertainty about fitment, we may ask for photos of your seats so we can confirm the correct pattern before you order.

Vehicle-Specific Technical Information
How can I tell if my Holden VE Commodore is Series 1 or Series 2?
Holden VE Commodore Series 1 and Series 2 vehicles can use different seat trims and components, so it is important to confirm the correct seat configuration before ordering.
Do not rely on the vehicle's year alone to determine which SeatSkins product you need, as build dates and model transitions can create uncertainty.
If you're unsure, send us your vehicle details along with clear photos of the front seats and headrests. We can use these to help identify the correct SeatSkins product for your vehicle.
Can I fit VF GTS seat foams to my Holden VE seats?
In some cases, VF GTS-style seat foams can be used as an upgrade on compatible Holden VE seat frames, but compatibility depends on the exact seat and vehicle configuration.
This type of conversion may also require the correct matching upholstery trims, as the shape of the replacement foam can differ from the original VE foam.
Contact us with your vehicle model, year and variant, along with photos of your existing seats, before ordering parts for this conversion. We can confirm which SeatSkins foams and trims are suitable for your particular seats.
Are BA/BF Ford Falcon XR seat foams compatible with FG or FGX seats?
Some BA/BF and FG/FGX Ford Falcon seat components share similarities, but seat foam compatibility depends on the exact model, variant and seat type.
XR, XLS, G6, G6E and other seat configurations can use different foams and upholstery patterns, so compatibility should not be assumed based only on the vehicle generation.
Before ordering replacement foam for a BA, BF, FG or FGX Falcon, check the fitment information on the product page. If you're unsure, send us your vehicle details and photos of the existing seat and we can help confirm the correct foam.
Will BA/BF Ford Falcon XR seat foams fit G6, G6E or G6E Turbo seats?
No. BA/BF Falcon XR seat foams should not be assumed to fit G6, G6E or G6E Turbo seats.
These seat types can use different foam shapes and upholstery patterns, so an XR replacement foam may not be compatible even when the seats appear similar.
If you need replacement foam for a G6, G6E or G6E Turbo, contact us with the vehicle details and photos of the seat so we can confirm whether a suitable replacement is available.
Can SeatSkins help repair torn or worn leather on Holden VE seats?
Yes. If only one section of your Holden VE seat is damaged or worn, you may not need to replace the complete interior.
SeatSkins can supply individual replacement trims for many VE seat configurations, including commonly worn areas such as the driver's seat base or backrest trim.
Because VE seat designs vary between Series 1, Series 2 and different variants such as SV6, SS, SSV and HSV models, send us your vehicle details and photos of the affected seat so we can identify the correct replacement trim.
Are Ford Falcon BA, BF and FG XLS seat foams interchangeable?
SeatSkins replacement seat foams are available for selected BA, BF and FG Ford Falcon XLS seat configurations.
Compatibility depends on the specific seat type, so the vehicle model alone should not be used to determine fitment.
Check the fitment information on the individual seat foam product page before ordering. If you're unsure, send us your vehicle year, model and variant along with photos of the seat and we can confirm whether the replacement foam is suitable.
Can SeatSkins supply replacement trims for different Holden Commodore seat variants?
Yes. SeatSkins has patterns for many different Holden Commodore seat variants and can supply complete trim kits or individual replacement trims for many applications.
Seat designs can differ between models, series and variants such as SV6, SS, SSV, HSV and other configurations, even when the seats appear similar.
When you're unsure which trim you need, send us the vehicle year, model and variant along with clear photos of the seats. We can identify the seat type and help match it to the correct SeatSkins pattern.
Do Holden Monaro front door trims differ between models?
Yes. Holden Monaro door trims can vary between models and configurations, so the correct parts and trim design need to be confirmed before ordering or arranging custom work.
SeatSkins can assist with replacement or custom upholstery for selected Monaro door trim applications.
Contact us with the year and model of your Monaro and clear photos of the existing door trims. We can then confirm what options are available for your vehicle.
Contact & Getting Help
What information should I provide if I need help finding the right product?
To help us identify the correct SeatSkins product, please provide your vehicle's year, make, model and variant.
For some vehicles, different seat designs were used within the same model or year. If there is any uncertainty, we may also ask you to send clear photos of your front and rear seats, including the headrests.
The more information you provide, the easier it is for us to confirm the correct fitment before you order.
What photos should I send if I'm unsure which seats I have?
If you're unsure which SeatSkins product fits your vehicle, clear photos of the seats can help us identify the correct configuration.
Ideally, send photos showing the complete front seats, front headrests and rear seats. If your question relates to a particular seat, trim or component, include a clear photo of that area as well.
Photos are particularly useful when there are different seat designs across model years, series or variants.
What should I do if I can't find my vehicle or product on the website?
If you can't find your vehicle or the product you need on our website, contact us before assuming it isn't available.
Our website does not necessarily list every vehicle pattern, individual replacement trim or custom product that SeatSkins can supply.
Send us your vehicle's year, make, model and variant, along with details of what you're looking for. Photos of the seats can also help us determine whether we have a suitable pattern or product available.
Can I contact SeatSkins before placing an order?
Absolutely. If you're unsure about vehicle fitment, product options, colours, installation or anything else before ordering, contact us and we'll help.
Providing your vehicle's year, make, model and variant will help us answer your enquiry accurately. For fitment questions, we may also ask for photos of your seats.
It's always better to confirm any uncertainty before placing your order, particularly for made-to-order or customised products.
